Solana Labs launches Web3 powered Smartphone

At an event in New York City on Thursday, Solana Labs CEO Anatoly Yakovenko announced the upcoming launch of a new Web3 smartphone, "Saga". The device, built by OSOM, will be designed with specific crypto wallet functions and the Solana Mobile Stack (SMS) software development kit.

The android phone is set to be priced at around $1000, and will be delivered in early 2023. It will include a Web3 decentralized app store, "Solana Pay" capabilities to facilitate on-chain payments, and a "Seed Vault" that will secure wallet seed phrases directly in the phone.

To spur development of mobile apps for the new phone, Solana Labs has pledged $10 million towards developers using the SMS sdk.

The Solana Saga replaces what was to be called the OSOM OV1, a much anticipated phone that OSOM had already been working on bringing to market.

The device is available to pre-order on the official Solana Mobile website with a $100 deposit. You can also sign up for the official Saga email list to receive updates on the phone's progress.
