Major League Baseball (MLB), MLB Players Inc. and Sorare have announced a partnership to launch a new free-to-play Baseball themed NFT game in the summer of 2022. Sorare will become the official NFT baseball game partner of MLB, giving users of their existing soccer platform another sport to collect and trade NFTs for.
Players will try to create the best team of MLB Players (in the form of NFTs) to earn weekly rewards. Further details of the game will be announced in the coming months before the official product launch.
“MLB has been at the forefront of interactive games for decades, while baseball has some of the oldest and most established forms of sports memorabilia. Together they show how much fans want to own and be a part of the game. Today, as digital engagement and technology evolves for a new generation, our partnership will help a new and broader fanbase to connect with America’s pastime.” says Nicolas Julia, Co-Founder and CEO at Sorare.
This Sorare venture will be the second ever NFT based blockchain game for MLB, following Lucid Sight's project, MLB Champions, which ran from 2018-2020. In that game, users attempted to assemble the best team of MLB Players (in the form of NFTs) to win daily rewards based on the performance of their players in live baseball games.
